KE7 Games Fiesta

By Grace Chan Hui Hui

Board games, food & fun, Settler's Cafe style. And for the first time in KE7!!

With the first ever Games Fiesta held in KEVII, this signifies a new affair in our hall calendar of events! This event was organized by Publications Committee and Welfare Committee in collaboration with Gym and Recreation Committee. It was held in our very own communal hall on the 25 October 2007.

Everyone who came received door gifts which consisted of a bag label and a handphone cleaner pad from NUS International Relations Office, and vouchers from both BlueEyes.Usa and Settler’s Café. How cool is that! Excitement soon filled the air as 8.30 p.m. approached. In fact, a few KEVIIans were already at some of the games booth, deciding on which game to play first.

At 8.30 p.m., Jeevan, our emcee for the night kicked things off with his boisterous antics. With that, KEVIIans who were present took their pick of games. There were 8 quick and simple games available. Among them were Pop-up Pirate, Tumbling Towers, Bingo, Connect Four, Wig Out, Saboteur, PDQ (Pretty Darn Quick) game, Memory Cards.

Judging from the bursts of laughter and shouts of enthusiasm, the Pop-up Pirate, Tumbling Towers, Wig Out and PDQ game were the favourites among the crowd. Even little Weining (daugher of Dr. Seow, Resident Fellow of F-Block) enjoyed herself immensely. She was seen visiting the Wig Out booth over and over again.

Nevertheless, the other highlights of the night were the Scrabble and Sudoku competition. The scrabble attracted our very own GH Block Resident Fellow Jenson Goh and his wife Jenny and, Mrs. Seow to play. During preliminary rounds, there were 3 groups of participants. As time ran out for the preliminary round, the highest scoring player from each group advanced to the finals. They were Hui Ning, Yi Fong and Mrs. Seow. After much sweat and brain juice were squeezed out, the overall winner was Mrs. Seow! The variety of words she formed in the game was unbelievable!

As for the Sudoku competition, Audrey from D Block, Raymond our JCRC president, Dhawal who is one of our writers, and Lincoln made it to the finals. One could literally sense the tension that was in the air as each one was determined and focused in solving the puzzle- or was it the thought of winning the grand prize? After the scores were tabulated, the winner was *drumroll* Audrey! Don’t underestimate this petite girl!

As the night drew to an end, the winners of the 2 competitions, namely Mrs. Seow and Audrey received their well-earned prizes which were a board game from Settler’s Cafe and equipment from Nutrition Park respectively. Goolaub had to be the night’s most lucky person as the emcee kept pulling out his name from the lucky draw box. It was hilarious. Unfortunately for him and luckily for others, only 1 prize was allowed per person.

It was a fantastic night for those who came down. As it was the first time this event was organized, there were bound to be some glitches here and there. No worries though for we promise that this event will be back next time with a bigger bang! On for Games Fiesta 2008!
