6th September marked the day of the ROCKE Bash. Brought to all KEVIIans by KEWOC, this event can boast of many firsts.
It was the first time a ROCKE Bash was conducted, the first time it was held at Ministry of Sound and most importantly, the first time our most respected Hall Master, A.P. Ho Yew Kee attended the Bash. The 155 people who went to the ROCKE Bash also had the once in a lifetime opportunity of seeing the RF of GH Block, Mr. Jenson Goh dance! Also, last but not least, it was the first time ever that we had our very own DJ, the hip and trendy DJ Neoflava of Radiopulze a.k.a. Buddhima, our fellow E-Blocker. To those who didn’t join this stimulating event of the month, here I am to further rub your open wounds with salt! I’m going to tell you how MUCH you have missed out.
The ROCKE Bash took off with a good start with the introduction of the first event by our spontaneous and most enchanting emcees, Lynn and Jia Yan. The first event was the block-based dance competition. Each block had to send a male freshie and a female freshie. The participants hailed from different countries – Singapore, Malaysia, China and Mauritius. It was definitely very entertaining (at least for us, the audience) watching the different types of dance each participant performed. There were fish-like movements, disco-dancing and a very sexy and coordinated dance by GH Blockers, Yannick and Yue Zhi. These two emerged the winners of the competition and they walked away with a 1Gigabyte thumb drive each.
The response after the competition was so overwhelming that the seniors wanted to dance too. So, next up was a seniors’ dance competition. By popular demand, Aik Leong & Zi Chun, Jia Hui from the Alumni team, Eunice, Buddhima, Jiayan and Musa joined the competition. No doubt, the seniors were much more outgoing as compared to the juniors. Eunice and Buddhima wowed us all with their dancing skills. But, the most amusing dance was performed by Aik Leong & Zi Chun who did pole dancing. It was so hilarious. In the end, no one won the competition but everyone had a good laugh.
Then came the climax and most exciting part of ROCKE Bash, the kinky charades. This again, was a block-based competition required each group of four people to act out the phrase written on the slip of paper they selected. It was KINKY charades, so the phrases were sexually oriented. For example, some of the more subdued sexual phrases were ‘seductive’, ‘fetish’, ‘hugging’, ‘hot chick’, ‘smacking’ and ‘lap dance’. There were also more PG-13 phrases like ‘dry humping’ and other words which I am not going to describe here for obvious reasons. I was one of the participants for E Block and we had to act out ‘dry humping’, ‘love bite’ and two other phrases. It was pretty difficult for us as some phrases are unknown to most of us and embarrassing to act out. On the other hand, the audience had a blast watching us. AB Block won $50 for their block fund by coming out first for this competition.
All in all, KEViians had lots of fun during the ROCKE Bash, especially when DJ Neoflava started to rock the house with his interesting mix of hip-hop, R&B and pop which drew everyone to the dance floor. The head of the ROCKE Bash committee, Musa, organised the event with the goals of bonding the ROCKE seniors while celebrating ROCKE’s success during the Orientation Week, Flag and Rag Day. His goals were definitely accomplished. We, as juniors greatly enjoyed ourselves as well. GH block freshie, Yannick Ng commented that “the DJ was awesome” and promised that he would join the next bash. Being new to clubbing, I’m glad that I bought the ROCKE Bash tickets. In my opinion, there’s no better way of experiencing clubbing the first time than with KEVIIan seniors and friends at the extremely happening ROCKE Bash.
